If any issues are causing you concern, let us do an inspection. We will check the fluid and look for leaks. We can do a basic inspection of moving parts to see if there is excessive wear. Other than that our mechanics will give it a test drive and learn what they can from seeing how it works, or by seeing problems first hand.

Sometimes changing the transmission fluid is all you need but there are two levels of fluid exchange. The first level involves letting the old fluid drain out and seeing if it has any metal shavings in it. We then replace the fluid. A complete flush involves getting every bit of the fluid out and inspecting some of the seals to make sure everything is in good working order.

If your transmission goes all the way out, you will have to replace it. You may buy a new one which is only economical for new cars. Buying a used one is possible but that is risky because you don't know the condition and there may not be a warranty. Buying a rebuilt one is a reasonable option and is a good idea in some cases. The most cost-effective is way is to rebuild the transmission already in your car. Some parts that are not worn can be kept, and it is less intrusive to the car in general.
